A Great Loss

My beautiful cat Beau was hit by a car and killed a few days ago and I am absolutely devastated.
We have lost a lot of pets over the years but always to old age or illness, but he was only 2 and very special to me. As we live in a quiet area, this was totally unexpected.
I know a lot of birders don't like cats but you can't deny he was very handsome. Sue

  4. So sorry to hear this. I don't have any dogs or cats, but I know what it's like to lose pets. In past years, I've had several, which either had to be put down, or given away.

I've a cat and a dog, so I can imagine how you're feeling at the moment.

  6. So sorry to read this :( I lost one of my cats to a car accident many years ago, I have a pretty good idea how you must be feeling at the moment.
I may be a birder, but I am a cat lover first and foremost, and yours looked truly worthy of his name.

  8. There are worse things but I can't think of any. The next won't be the same but hopefully will be as demanding.

  11. As a fellow pet owner (and another birder who likes cats) can I offer my sincere condolences, especially as he died at such a young age. So tragic. RIP Beau.

  12. How sad, only two. And absolutely gorgeous. I always find a trip to the local rescue centre and bringing home a new friend helps. Preferably one completely different.

  19. Hi Sue,
I'm sorry for your loss, and they are birders who love cats. I'm one of them!!

  20. I am so very, very sorry for your loss. It is not easy to love them and lose them when they are old, but to lose them when they are so young and you always wonder what if... He was most assuredly a beauty, and my heart aches for your loss. We have had cats for 41 years and we are down to the last two most probably~

  22. I am so sorry. He was truly a handsome fellow; I have a soft spot for grey cats, too. It is amazing how these small animals squirm their way into our hearts and take over such a big space.

    Take care,
    Wilma

  24. Very sad Sue so sorry to hear the news, that was one of the worst thing I've ever had to do.We had two kittens about fifteen years ago one for each of my daughters who wanted them the one my youngest daughter had would not leave her side and would follow her everywhere. Anyway it was terrible when I had to sit up one New Years Eve unti she came home from a party and tell her that her cat had been killed, it broke her heart and mine to.

  25. I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. It is hard to lose a pet when they are old, but it seems even more difficult to lose a young one this way. They are so much a part of your life and leave such an empty spot.

  26. Gorgeous looking cat! Reminds me of the one I had, same color, similar eyes. I feel for you as losing a pet is losing a member of your family.

  27. Hi Sue.
I wasn't going to write anything that hasn't already been said, but I have to, I am truly sorry for your loss. I know how you feel, as I have had 2 cat's over the years and both of them died before they even got to a decent old age.One was hit by a car but believe it or not he dragged himself all the way back home, andwe got him to the vet's in time to save him, but then him and our other cat died of ilnesses.
Once again Sue, my condolences to you, and JR.

  29. I admit to being one of the 'others' but only because of the bird aspect and I did once take in a homeless cat which unfortunately got killed on the road too and I was devastated. Being a huge dog lover and, having lost too many to illness or old age over the years, I know it really is like losing a member of the family when a beloved pet dies, I'm so very sorry this has happened, he really was a very handsome cat...I will be thinking of you.

  31. Thank-you to everyone for all your kind and thoughtful comments.
I have never felt this bad at losing a cat before and think it will be quite a while before I get another one.
So pleased that there are so many birders that also like cats, after all cats do what they do, not out of vindictiveness but just because they are cats and made that way. Sue

  34. So very sorry to hear of your sad loss - only just found out, as I've been a bit pre-occupied with one of our cats being extremely ill (pulled through now!). From past experience I do know just what you're going through, and you have my deepest sympathy. Treasure the memories, which will be happier as time passes.

  35. Oh Sue, I am so, so sorry. I just don't know what else to say. It is devastating and I really feel for you both. I lost a cat in a road accident too. It's just not fair. It is hard enough losing them when they are ill or old. I know it's early, but I am sure he would be happy for you to offer your kind, safe, loving home to another and your other pets would appreciate the company I am sure. Something to think about anyway. When I lost Maddie I thought I would never get over her, but Hesper has changed all that (although Maddie is still with me). Take care xxx

  37. Gosh-really sorry to hear about your cat.I've owned cats all my life and become really attached to them So I know how you feel.

  38. A handsom cat and he looks so soft, I'm sure he is missed.
In our community cats must be kept indoors, great for the birds, safer for the cats but I think the cats would prefer to be outside.

  39. Just seen your post Sue, Me and Lydia have five cats and I can't imagine how hard this must be for you, they have such big characters that to lose one must leave a big void!
