Another Slow Weekend!

The Pectoral Sandpiper was taken last week and the rest are just a few shots from over the weekend. Most of the Butterflies and Dragonflies were taken by Sue.
Although they are still around the numbers are well down, in fact the Painted Lady is only the second we have seen this year and what happened to all the Brimstones and Clouded Yellows?

  12. If that's a slow weekend, mine was all but stationary! Spent all day Friday at Rutland Water and Eyebrook Reservoir, and the only salvation was some record shots of a Black-necked Grebe. Same on Saturday when I walked several miles round three well-known birding sites, and the birds were notable by their absence - apart from a distant Hobby. Just a few butterfly & dragonfly images resulted, but your superb images put my efforts to shame! Sunday I gave up and stayed at home!

Every one of your images is a winner, but the closed-wing Painted Lady image is my favourite, closely followed by the Red Admiral, the Demoiselle and the Chaser. Great to see Sue's work again!

  16. Hi John and Sue. I hope you are both feeling much better now.

What beautiful photos! I haven't seen a Painted Lady at all this year and only one last, not like the wonderful influx of 2009 -:) I have only seen one settled Brimstone recently and a few fly pasts in early Spring. Only one Small Copper and not even many Peacocks!

  21. Wonderful set once again. I saw a pectoral sandpiper in Iceland this year. It is very rare and was only the 14th seen and species 130 for me in Iceland. There are nowadays baird's sandpiper around but did not manage to see them. With my lens and camera to be repaired (just got them this week), I did not go out too often!
