CUCKOO AT BUTTERMILK HILL.

There were 2 Cuckoos at Buttermilk Hill yesterday.
In my haste to locate one after I heard it call, I nearly
broke my neck by stepping in a Rabbit hole and falling over.
Today my knee looks like a cricket ball.
Well worth it though as they seem to get fewer every year.

  12. When I was a boy the call of the Cuckoo was a common place thing here in Leicestershire, it went hand in hand with those long lazy days of summer. Now a days it is very much a rarity and I have only heard the one calling in the last two years, you are very lucky to have heard one let alone capture those fantastic images, very well done!

  13. I remember recently reading that it was a tradition for people to report the first cuckoo of the spring to The Times, but that in recent years encounters have become so few that the practice has been discontinued - so perhaps your cricket ball knee was well earned!

  15. Esta es un ave muy difícil de fotografiar, por lo menos en mi territorio. Preciosas imágenes, me han gustado mucho. Saludos cordiales desde España.

  17. Yup, sometimes we can really lose ourselves into birding. But you managed quite a nice collection in the end. Speedy recovery to you.

  19. I've not seen a Cuckoo yet this year (but I've heard few!), so I'll have to content myself with your super images, John. Sorry to hear that these images came at a cost! I hope the knee is now recovering well.

    Best wishes from a rather wet Midlands - - - - Richard
