Back with the Birds. (and Butterflies)

Over the past couple of days we have visited Marazion Marsh, Hayle Estuary, Swan Pool and Hell's Mouth and birds are still a bit thin on the ground. If you look at the last Egret shot you
can see the poor fish in his throat.
We think this is a Juvenile Robin, not quite sure about the white flash though.
According to the book these are Cinnabar caterpillars, wish we had taken a couple home to incubate into adults as we have yet to see a Cinnabar.

  1. Nice set of images as usual. Your insects and macro work is improving all of the time. The last chaser image is very good.

  3. 'We think this is a juvenile Robin'

I think its possibly a juvenile Redstart but......am I imagining things when I take its rump and tail to appear rufous-chestnut? Not much to seperate the two in your pic.

Apologies the first post had some unacceptable errors in it.

  9. Superb photos as always, but I especially like the Egret series. They are really a beautiful bird. I didn't see any on our trip to Reno this time. Great photography, guys!

  10. Great images! I would have said Stonechat for the young bird because of the flecks on the back and 'dirtier' looking front/flanks.

  11. Great set of omages John and Sue. I know the Cinnabar Moth catapillar loves Ragwort.

Funny how things work out, Ragwort used to be hated by Farmers now you see it everywhere.

  18. A lovely set of photos. I don't think it's a juvenile Robin and I wondered about a juvenile Dunnock but I'm really not sure, a thoroughly enjoyable post though.

  19. Thanks everyone, the general consensus seems to be Juvenile Stonechat and we think, with that white bar, this is probably correct. Sue and John
