BLACK DARTER.

We went to Breney Common and saw a few male Black Darters, no females around.
The female at the bottom was taken 3 weeks ago in the same area.

  3. Nice captures! Dragonflies are not exactly easy to photograph. When sitting still, I have a better chance!

  4. Great photos--dragonflies are hard to photograph even though they sit still for awhile.

  6. WOW! Superb!
Would it already be the end of their flying period in the UK?
We are leaving tomorrow to take pics of them in the south-east of France, we don't have them around where we live.
Also hoping to get S. depressiculum and pedemontanum at the same rime!
I think S. danae is extremely beautiful, but as with all dark dragons, they are a challenge for a photographer!

    1. Thanks Noushka, I think they may have a couple of weeks left although the females seem to have disappeared already in our area. Good luck in the south-east of France. Sue

  7. Superbly captured John - as Noushka says, black subjects are never easy to photograph. I've never seen one of these, let alone photographed one!!

Keep up the good work - saving my pennies for a macro lens now!

  8. Thanks everyone. We were pleased to get these as we missed them last year.
Breney Common is the only reliable area down here to see them. Sue and John
