Went to Marazion Marsh over the week-end, not a lot about, mainly Butterflies, but did get
the Kingfisher and then over to Gothian Sands for the Wheatear.
Have had a couple of Mothing nights recently and our grand-daughters Ellie and Madison got up early (we were babysitting) to help John empty the Moth trap. They were still in pyjamas and not at all squeamish, even when they had Moths in their hair.
Here are some of the Bugs that John has collected while out with the dog.
Wow....you have a lot of photos here....one nicer than the next. I guess your granddaughters are following in your footsteps! That's wonderful... your insect macros are really nice...and the moths....butterflies...birds! Everything!
Thanks for your corrections, always glad to have an expert opinion. Will put right when the editor gets in. This is my fist year doing Moths so I am surprised more aren't wrongly named. Birds are much easier. John
Well I for one didn't know there was such a variety of moths!! Well done on the Kingfisher I seen it and missed it. However he does seem to be using the same reeds to perch on, so I might get lucky next time. Great blog keep the pictures rolling in.
A great series of shots! All the insect shots are wonderful, and the wheatear shots are supurb. The very best capture though is of your two lovely granddaughters.
Beautiful shots as usual JR&Sue. The Wheatear is absolutely beautiful (my kind of shot) but there can only be one winner...the grand daughters Ellie and Madison.
Hi John & Sue Glad to meet up at last on Sunday morning pity you missed he Bairds and Stints, but you have to thank uneducated humans for that.Great shots on the post as usual love the Moths and the Wheatear is supurb.Nice to see the Kingfisher returned, last I saw of it was when it zoomed off up through the Reeds. Nice to see the Grandaughters showing an interest, a lot of youngsters these days are not aware what's around them.
What a great collection! I think a lot of us will be considering a moth trap in the future! Lovely to see the Wheatear and the Kingfisher, also a lovely photo of the Small Copper.
Gorgeous post again. Congrats, what a panel of moths shots! Incredible! But i have to say that I would like to get one shot, only one, of a kingfisher, so that would be my favorite!
Thanks everyone. It's great that our grand-daughters are not too nervous about creepy crawlies, and they will happily pick up toads and mice that their cats bring in. Will have to start taking them out birding with us. John
