Yesterday we paid a visit to Croft Pascoe Plantation.
We found this enormous Horse-Fly, about an inch and a half,
which is apparently the largest in the country.
TABANUS SUDETICUS |
TABANUS SUDETICUS |
COMMON CROSSBILL |
We saw around 30 Crossbills, the first we have seen in Cornwall. It was very windy so lucky to get any kind of shot.
SPOTTED FLYCATCHER |
GATEKEEPER |
RED ADMIRAL |
SMALL TORTOISESHELL |
We have included the Butterflies because we have
seen hardly any of the last 2 this year.
That horsefly is a corker mate bit green about that one, Crossbills are great and as for the butterflies hardly any in the garden in spite of growing friendly plants for them this year, have only had one Small Tortoiseshell on a regular basis.
ReplyDeleteCU SOON.
Heerle mooie foto's
ReplyDeletegroetjes Herman.
The horse fly is huge, and the buggers bite.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots John, the detail and sharpness of the horsefly is stunning
ReplyDeleteHeel mooi gedaan John alleen heb ik ze liever niet in mijn buurt lieve groetjes Danielle
ReplyDeleteMore great photos!!
ReplyDeleteDoes the Tabanus Sudeticus give a 'bite' commensurate with its size? If so, I'll stay away thank you!
So pleased you got your first Cornish Crossbills.
Best regards. Richard
That Horsefly is a beaut and the Gatekeeper is a favourite of mine as well.
ReplyDeleteHi! All great photos as usual. Those Horseflies really give a nasty bite. My husband was bitten by one on his leg, and it became so swollen that his trousers had to be cut away. They like to alight on you when we are wet from being in the pool or in a river, and if you don't notice, your in big trouble! Sorry I have rambled on a bit!
ReplyDeleteWarm regards.
Preciosas fotos, muy bonitas.
ReplyDeleteSaludos.-
Thank you one and all for your comments.
ReplyDeleteJohn and Sue.
