Myself and my brother Chris paid a visit to St.Gothian Sands yesterday and a woman approached us, carrying this Manx Shearwater, which had landed exhausted at her feet.
She didn't know what it was and said she was taking it to the RSPCA.
The Kestrel was also taken at Gothian.
Superb, you have got to be in the right place at the right time. Thanks for shearing.

What a lucky day you've had, Beautiful pictures too.
ReplyDeleteWow first what a luck to see a shearwater like this!! I've only seen them with binocular!! Far, far away!!! And then the kestrel and stonechat pictures are awesome... Pure beauties both of them! I've seen the stonechat in France for the first time this summer.. Can you imagine?
ReplyDeleteHave a nice week end.
That brought a tear to my eye :-) I can't think of anyone more perfect for someone to approach in a situation like that. Lovely pictures guys. Great to see the close ups.
ReplyDeleteWhat a superb set of pictures. That first Kestrel, and the Stonechat are outstanding.
ReplyDeleteHope the Manx Shearwater makes a speedy recovery. A real beauty.
Even more beautiful up close.

These are fantastic! WOW!
ReplyDeleteSuper captures as always. I especially love the Kestrel and Egret shots.
ReplyDeleteI read that a Manx shearwater had lived at least 55 years. Long life, i guess.
ReplyDeleteTop quality here and a great result all round. Big well done on recording some stunning pictures of events.
ReplyDeleteLucky, indeed. It`s not that often you get to see a Manxie in the hand.

Hi John,
ReplyDeleteSuperb set of pictures. Love the Kestrel on the ledge.
Well done
Love the egret shot!
ReplyDeleteI do hope the Manx Shearwater survives although I suppose we will never know! I love the Stonechat (gorgeous photo) and the Rock Pipit.
ReplyDeleteHi John and Sue Looks like you had a great weekend again, lovely post and great images and what a turnup with the Manx. Had a similar thing about 3 years ago, arrived at work one morning and the night shift boys were waiting for me with a shoe box, and inside was a Storm Petrel that had been blown inland and into the building during a gale. After a check up at the vets it was declared fit and released at Portreath.
ReplyDeleteWow what luck indeed wonderful :) Seems you had a wonderful day and you captured some wonderful shots.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos--how lucky you are to see these great birds. Sounds like a great day.
ReplyDeleteYou have some spectacular shots here. The kestrel on the lichen-crusted brick wall is stunning. When I enlarged it, I just fell in love with that head-on shot.
