This is the last of our pictures from Bulgaria.
It is mostly insects which we hope we have identified correctly.
The first picture is an Ant-lion, the first we have seen.
They can grow very large and look like a Dragonfly when flying.
The Mammoth Wasps are huge but apparently
harmless, didn't put it to the test though.

Nicely done! What a great collection of photos.
ReplyDeleteTop notch images can't beat your blog or your photography for macro images.
ReplyDeleteGreat insect images, not forgetting the lizard and the wallcreeper... a bird I've yet to catch up with.
ReplyDeleteGreat selection of beautiful macro's !!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful clear photos. Love the insects but last but not least the Wallcreeper!
greetings, Maria
Many thanks for your compliments..
ReplyDeleteBeautiful series of pictures.. Great macro. Interesting creatures.. Have a nice week..
Beautiful collection of insects. Some have unique colours and their eyes... spell-bounding!
ReplyDeleteYou have found the extraordinary beauty in each creature. Colours, patterns, facial expressions - each photograph a treasure. The second photo, a shieldbug, seems to have a face on its back :) The wallcreeper is especially breathtaking.
ReplyDeleteA truly great set of images, but my jaw dropped when I saw the Wallcreeper. I would imagine that this species is very high on the most-wanted list of most world birders. It certainly is on mine.
ReplyDeleteI was drooling over your fabulous macro work, John (what a wonderfully varied set of subjects!), when I came to the Wallcreeper. What am amazing bird to see - and then you nailed it with the photography too. It doesn't get much better than that! Well done!!!
