We have been twice to try to see the American Bittern and today was our lucky day (no photos), probably due to the fact that Monty was there and he seems to be making a habit of seeing rarities on his birthday. Last year it was a Raddes. So thank you Monty and happy 90th!
Here are some pictures from Hayle Estuary over the weekend.
Think this is an Adult Med. Gull and this one probably a 2nd Winter Med Gull.
All are great, but I adore the Greylags, such cool looking birds~
ReplyDeleteGreat shots John, I never did see that Spoonbill!!!
ReplyDeleteWell done on the Bittern and apparently the Greylag with the collar is the only tickable Greylag as it is guarenteed wild .
ReplyDeleteSam
Thanks Sam,it's the first collard i've seen, very interesting, thanks for the info.
ReplyDeleteJohn.
Excellent and I love the lapwings. Maybe you can send it to me ;-)
ReplyDeleteLovely shots as usual. Particularly like the Lapwings and the Little Egret. Just love their yellow feet. Spoonbills seem to be getting more and more common, just like the Egrets did.
ReplyDeleteGreat selection of images once again!I particulary like the first image of the Spoonbill surrounded by those ducks etc.
ReplyDeleteHi Both
ReplyDeleteGreat to catch up with you again this morning, and to see the American Bittern, thanks for the good wishes. Yep its becoming a habit picking up rarites on my birthday, so you better stick close to me next year I may go for a big one. Super set of images by the way.
CU Soon EYH.
American Bitterns are very hard to see in the habitat. I recall one time sitting in my canoe at dat break in a swamp and I caught a glimpse of movement and observed the bittern for 20 mins motionless, only to notice a second bittern not far from the first.
ReplyDeleteAmazing captures as always! Love those Little Egrets.
ReplyDeleteHi JR and Sue.
ReplyDeleteWell done on finally catching up with the American Bittern.
A nice selection of photo's, as we have come to expect.
Lovely series of shots! The Lapwings and Little Egrets are very nice!
