We went to Ventongimps NR for the first time on Friday and were not disappointed. It is a great place for Dragonflies etc, with a couple of great ponds and heathland. One of the ponds was created when a WW2 Bomber was discovered and excavated.
The Grayling were taken in the woods at Croft Pascoe, on The Lizard, as was the Wall Brown.
We have never seen them there before and they kept landing on us and the 'scope. In the first picture the wings are open slightly showing the rarely seen splash of colour.
Love the Damselflies. Do you know, I just realized this is the first year in many, I never even saw one down along our creek. It has been so very hot and the creek totally dried up first time this bad in 30 years. Guess they went other places to do their thing~
Fabulous, John!!! Those Wasp Spiders are just awesome, and I'm really envious of some of the species of dragonfly and butterfly that you are seeing in your neck of the woods.
A most fantastic series of images! You feature a great variety of winged insects. There is just something about dragonflies. So many beautiful close-up photographs to view. Looks like a marvelous place to observe nature. Outstanding post, as always!
Terrific series (as always). Great southern hawker and golden-ringed dragonflies; would love to see those in person.
