Not sure what the poor old Lapwing did to deserve this or maybe he is injured.
He seems to be struggling which alerted the Crow, who did his best to drown him.
The Spoonbill came over and the Crow flew off. The Spoonbill then did exactly the same.
Obviously he realised the Lapwing was too big and let him go.
I never knew that Spoonbills did this sort of thing.
Great series of photos. What was the outcome?

ReplyDeleteHi Marc.
ReplyDeleteIt survived the attack, and flew off.
The bird had a very bad day, two other birds attacked him. Amazing photos. Regards
ReplyDeleteA very interesting sequence, John, and superbly captured too. It makes me realise that I've no idea if Lapwings can swim, as I've only ever seen them inland or wading at the water's edge! If not, could this one have got out of its depth, and be struggling?
ReplyDeleteBest wishes to you both - - - Richard
Wow. Great photos. Poor Lapwing. It was not a good day for the bird.
ReplyDeleteOh, what an event! Unbelievable, why others were lapwing bouquet!

ReplyDeleteWow. Amazing photos. Nature is unpredictable.
ReplyDeleteWhen you are able to capture this kind of drama it provides the most rewarding photography of all. Well done, John.
ReplyDeleteThe weak have a hard time in nature. You were in the good (if sad) position for interesting shots.
ReplyDeleteCracking set of pics. John I trust the lapwing was unharmed.
