We went out to Bissoe on Sunday (brilliant sunshine) and saw our first ever Poplar Hawk-Moth hanging in the reeds. We were surprised how big it was. Also a newly emerged Broad-bodied Chaser which clumsily flew onto John as he took a picture. I eventually took it off the top of his head and it was still shiny and slightly damp. (the Chaser not his head).

On Saturday we went to Goss Moor and found this fantastic Emperor Dragonfly as well as a Golden-ringed. Also of interest was a single Green Hairstreak as we have never seen any there.
This gives me the creeps. Sue
wat een geweldige serie.
ReplyDeletegroetjes Herman,
You never fail to impress me.The colours on the Ruby Tailed Wasp are stunning.
ReplyDeleteAnother fantastic set of images! Superb photography.
ReplyDeleteThat's for sure, has been a memorable week end... very nice collection of shots, and John was lucky, he almost got punched in the eye by a chaser ;-)
ReplyDeleteVery good set of images John with some superb detail.

ReplyDeleteGreat photos!
ReplyDeleteI especially like the one of the green hairstreak--it looks so delicate.
(I made a typo in the first comment.)
Fantastic photos! I love the dragonflies. You have a much larger variety than we do in Alaska.
ReplyDeleteHi Both Fantastic set again John, love the chaser on the face (Two Portraits in one) hope to cu soon.
ReplyDeleteA brilliant day out, wonderful dragonflies as well.
ReplyDeleteI have just caught up with your three latest posts. What stunning photos and such a lovely variety of creatures. Butterflies are in very short supply here at the moment and I have never seen a Green Hairstreak, I love the unusual shade of green. I have never seen the Pearl-bordered Fritillary either, another one on my wish list!
ReplyDeleteAlso lovely to see the Siskin, we had a couple in the garden a few years ago during the depths of Winter but never since.
John's 'face furniture' looks very fetching :)
Stunning macro work as usual, John & Sue.
ReplyDeleteGreat images again both of you. The opening bee close-up is fab, as is the close-up of the compound eye and, of course the Labyrinth Spider – so much better than my lame attempt!
ReplyDeleteLike you say...brilliant week-end! Great diversity of nice images in this post ;)
ReplyDeleteHi JR and Sue.
ReplyDeleteLovely photo's as usual. I especially like the Golden Ringed Dragonfly. One I have yet to see.
